A lesser-visited rock fortress that briefly served as Sri Lanka’s capital in the 13th century, Yapahuwa is notable for its elaborately carved stone stairway, one of the finest examples of ancient Sinhalese stonework. With far fewer visitors than Sigiriya, the site offers a quieter, more atmospheric climb, along with cave temples and panoramic views from its rocky summit.
