Known as “Little England” for its colonial architecture and cool climate, Nuwara Eliya is surrounded by manicured tea estates and formal gardens that recall its origins as a 19th-century British hill retreat. Tudor-style buildings, a golf course and Victoria Park give the town a distinctly different character from the rest of Sri Lanka, best enjoyed with a warm jacket in hand.
